SONGSTERS
In 1912 David Thomas founded the Songster Brigade at Chester-le-Street. He was a 20 year old at the time but went on to be songster leader for 46 years. Since Davy relinquished his leadership, there have only been six other songster leaders.
The current brigade use ‘Sing to the Lord’ and ‘The Musical Salvationist’ to bring their message which has been heard in many Citadels around the country, including York, Perth and Chelmsford. Their most recent visits have been more local, at Sacriston for a Divisional Holiness Meeting and singing Christmas carols for a local visually impaired group.
The current repertoire includes ‘Somebody Prayed For Me’, ‘Under His Wing’ and ‘Grace Alone’.
They look forward to continued service to God, up to and beyond their centenary in 2012.
