Prayer
Lord God, show us the light of your face in peace;
shelter us by your mighty hand.
and save us from all wrongdoing by your outstretched arm.
Give to us and to all people, peace and harmony.
Make us obedient to your almighty and glorious name,
and give us a proper regard for those in authority on earth.
Through him be glory and majesty to you
now and for all generations through all ages.       Amen

JUST A THOUGHT
Around us we are hearing references to the word new, whether this be gifts received as Christmas presents or New Year resolutions made. These may include something that we have never done before, this can produce, if allowed, uncertainty and apprehension for the one about to embark on a new venture. However unless we do attempt the unknown we will never know what could have been achieved.

As Christians we should be aware that it would be ungracious and unwise to attempt a new venture in our own strength. We are taught in Scripture to draw on the `Strength of the Lord`. His wisdom will guide us and He will be with us always, as He has promised us. The late father of our Queen spoke these wise words of a poem to the British people during the dark days of world war two, they were written by a little known poet by the name of Minnie Louise Haskins 1875 to 1957. Although repeated often it is relevant today.

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year
‘Give me a light that I might tread safely into the unknown’.
And he replied ‘Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way’.
So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night,
and He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East.

May we all hold our Heavenly Father`s hand as we journey each day.
