Lord God, show us the light of your face in peace;
shelter us by your mighty hand.
and save us from all wrongdoing by your outstretched arm.
Give to us and to all people, peace and harmony.
Make us obedient to your almighty and glorious name,
and give us a proper regard for those in authority on earth.
Through him be glory and majesty to you
now and for all generations through all ages.       Amen

JUST A  THOUGHT

In our recent times of worship together we have been thanking God for His gift of ‘The Holy Spirit’ as promised by Jesus to His apostles before His ascension to His former glory.  ‘The Holy Spirit’ is the third person in the ‘Trinity’, trinity meaning three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Sometimes people find this concept difficult to understand, we recall a simple example which may help.  Think of an egg - shell, white and yolk, three components yet one entity.

On the day of Pentecost ‘ The Holy Spirit’ came upon those gathered together in one place waiting as Jesus had instructed them to do, they ‘Were of One Accord’.  This phrase is not included in some modern translations yet we feel that it tells us that those gathered were of one mind, waiting for and desiring the promised gift from God.  The gift was given as tongues of fire which divided and rested upon each person present, empowering them to be used in spreading the ‘Good News of the Gospel of Christ’.  The result was three thousand souls were added to the church that day.

In the natural world when fire devastates a forest the old is destroyed, but because the dark canopy of trees has been removed the light shines through and new growth begins on the forest floor.   When we, like those of old, wait upon the Lord desiring the on-going presence of The Holy Spirit in our lives, He will shine into our hearts to reveal and clear the debris so that new growth may commence and we can continue to bear fruit for Christ’s kingdom on earth.
