OUR CORPS FAMILY
The Salvation Army is primarily a Church and therefore at it’s centre are certain beliefs that every ‘soldier’ holds. These are the ‘Doctrines’. Please click here to read them.
Music has always played an active part in Salvation Army activities, and the Corps is well supported by it’s Senior and Young Peoples Bands, it’s Songster Brigade, Young Peoples Singing Company and Worship Group.
In addition to taking an active part in the services of the Corps, they are all willing to support the work of the other organisations, and have travelled extensively to conduct musical evangelical campaigns in many parts of Britain. On many occasions they have been invited to participate in National events in London. In 2007 the Senior Band celebrated one hundred and twenty five years of unbroken service.
The special interests of women are catered for by the weekly meeting of the Home League, where they meet to worship and share with each other.
Young People in the Corps meet regularly as a Youth Fellowship, and a very active Sunday School provides Scripture teaching. Twice a week, during term time, the mothers and toddlers can be found enjoying themselves at the Play Group. This activity is open to the community.
Bible Study classes are held in the Hall and also in various homes of the Corps people.
Our Hall is situated at Low Chare, and as well as being used for worship, it is used by a number of local community groups for meetings and also a selected number of commercial organisations hire rooms for Market Research.
Local Schools also visit the Hall as part of their coursework.
The Corps takes every opportunity to meet the needs of the people in the area. The slogan ‘Where there is need, there is the Salvation Army’ is as applicable today as at any time in the history of the organisation.
All who visit the Salvation Army Citadel in Low Chare, can be assured of a warm welcome, whatever their need might be.
